It’s 1960 and change is here. The grey cloud of the post-war era breaks with the elections of JFK in the US and Harold Wilson in the UK. Revolution is noisy, the formulaic pop of the ‘50s replaced by the raw sound of artists like Sam Cooke, Nina Simone, and Joan Baez lending their voices to the civil rights movement.
In the UK, working-class kids are discovering American music; to differentiate themselves, they start writing their own songs. Four boys from Liverpool emerge. The North invades the South, smashing through decades of RP and BBC manners.
This jigsaw is the who’s who of the 60s in music, and there’s everyone from The Beatles and Bob Dylan to Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones!
